My Postpartum Story: From Survival Mode to Thriving in Motherhood
When I first became a mum, I thought I was ready. I’d read the books, packed the hospital bag, and set up the nursery. But no amount of preparation could have prepared me for the overwhelming exhaustion, the sleepless nights, or the emotional rollercoaster that comes with welcoming a new baby.
To make matters harder, I became a parent during a global lockdown. Like so many, I was navigating the challenges of new motherhood without the in-person support of family and friends. The days blurred together in a haze of feeding schedules, nappy changes, and endless cries. My go-to fuel was coffee and chocolate—quick, convenient, and comforting in the moment. But this survival mode took its toll. I felt anxious, drained, and far from the version of myself I wanted to be.
Eventually, I hit a wall. I knew something had to change. If I wanted to be the best mum I could for my baby, I needed to start showing up for myself too.
That’s when I began exploring self-care—not the “bubble bath and candles” kind (although those have their place), but the kind of care that meets you where you are. I focused on sleep, nutrition, movement, and finding small moments of joy in each day. These weren’t overnight changes, but small, consistent steps that eventually brought me back to myself.
One of the biggest turning points came when I realised that self-care wasn’t selfish—it was necessary. I reframed it as something I deserved, not something I had to earn. Slowly but surely, I stopped surviving and started thriving.
Now, my mission is to help other new mums avoid the overwhelm and burnout I experienced. I created New Mum Wellness to provide practical, actionable resources that empower mums to care for themselves as they care for their families. My upcoming book, Prepared Postpartum, and the tools in my online store are all designed to help mums take control of their 4th trimester with confidence and clarity.
If my story resonates with you, know this: you are not alone. You deserve rest, nourishment, and support. You deserve to feel good again. And I’m here to help you get there.
